Srinagar, Jan 15(NVI): The Jammu & Kashmir Students Association has called on Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda to intervene in the ongoing health crisis in Rajouri, where a mysterious illness has claimed the lives of over 16 individuals, including 11 children.

The outbreak, which started in Badhaal village of Kotranka sub-division of Rajouri district in early December last year, had caused widespread panic among residents.

Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the association, described the rapidly escalating situation, with recent cases of severe illness predominantly affecting children from previously impacted families. The disease manifests symptoms such as fever, vomiting, dehydration, and episodic loss of consciousness. Despite the efforts of expert teams to conduct field studies and collect samples, the exact cause of the disease remains unidentified.

“The absence of conclusive findings and the lack of clear communication from the administration have intensified the distress among the affected communities,” said Khuehami. He called for the immediate deployment of medical experts, epidemiologists, and necessary resources to address the outbreak and support the affected families.

Khuehami also urged the Health Ministry to expedite the laboratory analysis of the samples and ensure timely, transparent communication with the public to curb misinformation and reduce panic. Additionally, the association has demanded a high-level inquiry to determine the cause of the outbreak and ensure accountability.

“The tragedy in Rajouri highlights the urgent need for better healthcare infrastructure in remote areas,” Khuehami said. “Swift action is crucial to prevent further loss of life and restore confidence in the region’s healthcare system.”

The association expressed hope that the Union Health Minister will take swift and decisive action to address the crisis and alleviate the suffering of the people in Rajouri. (News Vibes of India)
