Srinagar, Jan 23(NVI): To ensure year-round connectivity in remote and snow-covered regions, the Jammu and Kashmir government is set to introduce helicopter services to areas like Gurez, Karnah, and Tangdhar, which remain cut off due to heavy snowfall during winters.
A trial run was conducted today by Jet Serve Aviation in the Bagtore area of Gurez, marking a significant step toward addressing the transportation challenges in these isolated regions. Once operational, the service will cater to villages such as Bagtore, Baduaab, Dawar, and Badugaam, with further trials planned for Karnah and Tangdhar.
Officials highlighted that the helicopter service will prioritize emergency evacuations, including patients needing immediate medical attention, movement of government employees, and transportation for students. The initiative aims to bridge the accessibility gap caused by the closure of key routes like Bandipora-Gurez, Kupwara-Tangdhar, and Karnah-Chowkibal roads due to heavy snowfall.
This service is expected to act as a lifeline for residents, ensuring their safety and access to essential services during critical times. The government’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by these snowbound areas and improving connectivity throughout the winter season.
