Srinagar, Oct 02 (NVI):Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha while hailing the record voter turn out in the just concluded elections today said that youth of Kashmir have understood the power of vote and futility of gun and stones.
Addressing a gathering at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the LG said that 1.40 Crore people of J&K have contributed towards strengthening the democracy by taking part in large numbers in the polls.
“Gandhiji always saw and ray of hope in Kashmir,” the LG said. “Polls were held across the UT in a very peaceful manner. This election showed that people have forgotten the past and decided to shape their future by taking part in the democratic process in huge numbers.”
The LG said that youth of J&K, especially Kashmir have understood the value of vote and the futility of guns and stones. “Today, youth have replaced guns and stones with laptops and bats,” he said. “The youth of Kashmir choose ballot over bullets by coming out in record numbers to cast votes.”
He said the atmosphere that prevailing during the process of Assembly polls reflects peaceful environment as candidates were busy in political rallies till 12 in the night.
“Now it’s the duty of the youth to keep this peace intact and contributes towards pushing J&K to achieve new heights,” the LG said.
He, however, said some people continue to misguide youth and it’s the duty of new generation to defeat such people and their designs. (News Vibes of India)
