Justice Bobde takes oath as 47th CJI

    New Delhi (NVI): Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde sworn in as the 47th Chief Justice of India today at Rashtrapati Bhawan in the presence of President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    Justice Bobde, who succeeds Justice Ranjan Gogoi will have a tenure of over seventeen months as the CJI until April 23, 2021. He had also decided several key cases and was also the part of recent historic verdict which have paved the way for the construction of  Ram Temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya. 

    He hailed from a family of lawyers from Maharashtra, the 63-year-old is the son of eminent senior advocate Arvind Shriniwas Bobde. 

    He was selected following the rule of seniority and his name was recommended by Justice Ranjan Gogoi in a letter to the centre.
