Kashmir: 2 terrorists killed in encounter, 16 eliminated in a week

Srinagar: Two terrorists were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Kashmir today, raising to 16 the number of terrorists eliminated in the valley in a week.

The encounter, which started last night in Rajpora area of Awantipora, continued till this morning and ended with the killing of the two terrorists, police said.

The gunfight erupted after a security party laid a cordon around a place where the terrorists were hiding.

When the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire, the police said.

In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were killed, the police said, adding both were locals and associated with Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit.

One of them was involved in a spate of civilian killings

“The killed terrorist Shahid was involved in killing of a lady Mst Shakeela of Aripal and a government employee Javaid Ahmad of Lurgam Tral,” said a tweet by the police.

Police said incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 2 AK-47 rifles were recovered from the site of encounter.

This was the second gunfight in south Kashmir in the last 24 hours.

Last night, security forces shot dead two local Jaish terrorists in a gun battle in neighbouring Pulwama district.
