Srinagar: Amidst high alert in Kashmir in view of the Republic Day, security forces today intercepted 2 Pakistan-supported terrorists moving in a vehicle and shot them dead in a brief encounter in Budgam district.

The vehicle was intercepted by a joint team of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police near the Court complex in Budgam following a specific intelligence input about movement of terrorists.

“On specific input, the joint area domination party of Army & Police tried to stop one suspected vehicle, terrorists fired upon and in retaliation two terrorists were killed. Arms/ammunition recovered,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

Giving an update later, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said in a tweet, “Both the killed terrorists are identified as Arbaaz Mir and Shahid Sheikh of Pulwama linked with the proscribed terror outfit LeT.”

He said the two terrorists had escaped from a recent encounter.

He was apparently referring to an incident two days back when terrorists managed to give a slip to security forces after exchanging fire in Magam village of the same district.
