Srinagar: A gunfight between terrorists and security forces today left a civilian dead and an army man injured in a South Kashmir area.
The terrorists, however, managed to escape the security cordon after initial exchange of fire and the operation in Redwani area of Kulgam district was called off tonight after nearly 12 hours.
The security forces tracked down the terrorists during a search operation, police said.
When the forces were laying cordon, they came under fire from hiding terrorists, the police said.
An Army jawan and a civilian got injured in the firing, police said, adding they were rushed to a hospital.
The civilian, identified as Manzoor Lone of Redwani Bala in Kulgam, later succumbed to his injuries, police spokesman said.
The injured Army Jawan Kiran Singh remains admitted at Army’s 92 base Hospital Srinagar, the spokesman said
Meanwhile, for hours after the forces laid cordon and exchanged fire with terrorists, there was no gunfire.
A search was conducted but the terrorists were not found, leading to calling off of the operation.
“Search operation concluded,” the spokesman said.
