Srinagar, July 8 (NVI) Locals are playing a vital role in the fight against terrorism in Kashmir, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police said today, a day after they killed 6 terrorists in two intelligence-based operations in Kulgam district.

The gunfights took place in two villages of Kulgam after the security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation on Saturday based on intelligence about presence of terrorists at 2 specific places.

The terrorists killed in the operations spanning over 24 hours belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist outfit.

Addressing a press conference on the development, Brigadier Prithvi Raj Chauhan said today that this operation has left terrorist organizations in Kashmir without leaders, marking a crucial blow to their operations.

He said that locals have played a vital role in fight against the terrorism in Kulgam.

DIG South Kashmir Javid Iqbal said the operations were launched in these areas on specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in which six terrorists were killed, implying that the intelligence was provided by the local people only.

He said the killing of six terrorists is a big blow to the terrorist organisation in Kashmir. (NVI)
