Srinagar: In a surgical operation, security forces today killed a Pakistani terrorist in a gunfight in a Madrassa in Kashmir while avoiding any damage to the place or the 3 teachers and 31 students who were present there.

The Army and J&K Police also rescued 2 young kids of around 11 yrs age, who were tied up to the pillars with rope probably to be used as human shield by the dreaded Pakistani terrorist.

“Based on specific inputs provided by JKP regarding presence of terrorists in the Madrasa Darul Uloom Khalid Ibyn Walid in Village Kaprein, Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched in the area by the Indian Army and JKP on 11 Nov 22 at about 1:00 AM,” Srinagar-based Defence spokesman said in a statement.

Maintaining surprise, multiple small teams converged towards the target area, thereby sealing all possible escape routes, he said.

Interrogation of suspected Over Ground Workers (OGW) by JKP revealed the presence of terrorist inside the Madrasa, he said.

“Special care was taken during the clearance of the target area as it included Madrasa having presence of three teachers and 31 students,” the spokesman said.

“It was also made sure that the masjid in proximity of the area was not used by the terrorist to take refuge and due restrain was exercised to prevent any damages to the Masjid and Madarsa during the operation,” he informed.

At around 06:10 AM, the terrorist came out and fired indiscriminately on the troops in an attempt to escape, the spokesman said.

In retaliation, precision fire was brought down by Security Forces, resulting in the neutralisation of the terrorist.

One AK series rifle and other warlike stores were recovered from the terrorist, he said.

According to JKP, the neutralised terrorist has been identified as Kamran Bhai alias Anees, a resident of Pakistan affiliated to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist outfit.

“The terrorist was involved in various nefarious activities in the area, including terrorising the locals of the area and recruiting the gullible youth,” the spokesman said.

“His elimination will bring increased peace to the area and stymie recruitment of local youth into terrorism,” he added.
