Kashmir receives first snowfall

Srinagar (NVI): The entire Kashmir Valley was covered in a thick blanket of snow, as it received the the first snow of the season, on November 7, with the popular skiing destination Gulmarg recording four feet.

So far, Srinagar has recorded 4.5 inches of snow while Sonmarg eight inches, Pahalgam four, Jawahar Tunnel seven and Gurez 1.5 feet of snow, the Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.

According to the Department of Information and Public Relations of J&K, the Srinagar district administration has issued helpline numbers for general public in view of snowfall in the district. The helpline numbers are 01942483229, 01942477033, 01942452182, 9419028242 and 9419028251.

The administration has also appointed senior officers from concerned departments as nodal officers.

Meanwhile, Winter Exigency Control Room has been established at the DC Office in Budgam to register issues related to road blocks due to snowfall, non-availability of essentials, medical facility, power supply and other emergencies.

In Kupwara, the administration has also geared up men and machine power to tackle any weather-related eventualities. A 24X7 emergency joint control room with toll free number 01955253522 has been established at the DC office complex.

Several flights have either been cancelled or delayed due to the snowfall in the Valley. Vistara has cancelled all its flights to and fro Srinagar for November 7.
