Srinagar, Sep 28(NVI): A J&K Police Head constable lost his life, while as an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and DySP sustained injuries during an encounter between security forces and terrorists in the remote Kog-Mandli village in Billawar, Kathua district, on Saturday evening, officials said.
The encounter broke out as the security forces were conducting a search operation in the area, responding to credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists.
The slain police personnel was engaged in the operation when heavy gunfire erupted. Despite the swift retaliation by the security forces, he succumbed to his injuries. The ASI and the DySP were rushed to a nearby medical facility and is reported to be in stable condition after receiving prompt medical attention.
The encounter is part of an intensified anti-terror operation in the Jammu region, which has recently seen a rise in terrorist activities.
Security forces are currently engaged in combing operations to neutralize any remaining terrorists in the area. Additional reinforcements have been deployed, and the village has been cordoned off to ensure the safety of the locals and prevent any terrorist escape.(News Vibes of India)
