New Delhi (NVI): The Supreme Court today upheld the disqualification of 17 rebel MLAs of Karnataka but allowed them to contest the by-elections which is to be held on December 5.
A three-judge bench of the top court gave this verdict but struck down the portion of the order of then Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar by which the legislators were disqualified till the end of the 15th Karnataka Assembly.
On the speaker decision bench said “We uphold the order of speaker of disqualification. But strike out the period of disqualification.”
