New Delhi (NVI): With countries like Brazil and Mexico recording some of the fastest Covid-19 growth rates and daily deaths, Latin America is emerging as the new epicenter for Covid-19.

The surge in the positive cases is now being led by Brazil as the number of global cases is fast approaching the seven million mark.

Latin America now accounts for roughly 16 per cent of total cases in the world, although 30 per cent of these cases or nearly 2 million infections are in the United States.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Brazil is 6,76,494, while 36,044 have died in the Latin American country. 3,02,084 have recovered from the virus.

In another development, reports in foreign media claimed that Brazil Health Ministry removed the Covid-19 data from public view from a website that had the number of infections as per state and municipality.

Meanwhile, the global tally has climbed to 66,63,304 confirmed cases and 3,92,802 deaths. On average, there are 857 cases per 1 million people.

The United States, Brazil, Russia, the UK, India and Spain are among the top six worst-affected countries in the world, followed by Italy, Peru and Germany.

The United States, with the maximum number of cases, has reported 19,59,009 infections so far, with 1,11,374 deaths and 4,57,721 recoveries.
