Srinagar, Aug 29 (NVI):National Conference vice president and the party’s candidate for Ganderbal Omar Abdullah today said that the main motive to put up a united front against BJP is to ensure that the saffron party doesn’t get many seats in the upcoming polls in J&K.

Talking to reporters at Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir, Omar said that the main focus and the aim behind united front is to squeeze BJP in the upcoming polls. “We want BJP to win just few seats only,” Omar said.

Replying to query, he said those criticising his decision of joining the poll fray should peep into their own homes first. “If you are against the present system, you have to stand by that. What is the fun of pushing your close relative in the poll process and standing yourself away,” he said in an obvious reference to PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, whose daughter Iltija Mufti will be contesting from Bijbehera Assembly seat.

Omar will contest polls from Ganderbal Assembly seat. “I urge the people of Ganderbal to give me one more chance to serve you that way they did in 2008,” he said.

He added that he believes the present assembly is not so strong as it was, but it can be strengthened through these elections only.

About Engineer Rashid’s possible release, Omar said that he is of the belief Delhi court won’t succumb to NIA plea of rejecting the Baramulla MP’s bail. “I think and what I have got to know from Delhi is that the Court may order Engineer Rashid’s release on October 4,” he said. (News Vibes of India)
