Amritsar, Oct 19 (NVI): The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling network with the arrest of three accused and recovery of 10 pistols and 1.022 kg of heroin, Punjab Police said on Monday.

The seized weapons include three Glock 9 mm pistols and seven .30-bore pistols, police said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with smugglers based abroad, who supplied illegal weapons for further distribution among criminal elements, according to the police.

An FIR has been registered at Cantonment police station in Amritsar, and further investigation is underway to trace the backward and forward linkages of the network and identify other persons involved in the racket.

The police said efforts were being made to dismantle drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling networks as part of its commitment to ensuring a safe and drug-free Punjab.—(NVI)
