Chandigarh/Patiala, Apr 28 (NVI): A low-intensity blast was carried out on a railway track in Patiala district of Punjab last night and a man allegedly involved was killed.
The man died while allegedly attempting to detonate the bomb on the railway track in Rajpura area of Punjab’s Patiala district late last night, police said.
The incident occurred near the Shambhu border with Haryana, where an explosion was initially reported, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patiala, Varun Sharma, said police teams, along with senior officers, rushed to the spot after receiving information about a low-intensity blast.
“Upon inspection, it was found that this was not merely a low-intensity explosion but an attempted detonation. The individual attempting it died during the act. His body has been recovered,” Sharma said.
He added that no other casualties or damage to property were reported in the incident.
Police have collected scientific evidence from the site, including a SIM card, and launched a technical investigation to ascertain the motive and possible conspiracy behind the act.
The Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and other agencies have been roped in for a coordinated probe, officials said.
