Mandatory One day Market Closure : J&K’s Labour Commissioner holds talks with Traders Associations

Srinagar, Sep 11 (NVI): The trade representatives today held a crucial meeting with the J&K’s Labour Commissioner, Charandeep Singh virtually over the issue of strict adherence to one-day mandatory market closure where the traders sought ten day additional time for reviewing the proposed order. The Labour Commissioner agreed to the trader’s request making the meeting a fruitful one.

Last week, the Labour Commissioner had issued an order directing the traders to adhere strictly to the one-day off a week stating that complaints continue to pour in that many shopkeepers were not following the order in spirit.

He had termed the one day market closure a week as “mandatory.” A statement issued by the traders to NVI read that an important meeting was held between the Labour Commissioner J&K and trade representatives virtually. “The meeting was attended from the office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner Srinagar. The meeting was attended by ALC Srinagar Dr Adnan Tariq(JKAS), trade representatives from various associations, including the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), JKBC -Jammu And Kashmir Business Confederation, City Traders and Manufactures, Federation,” the statement said.

It said that the Joint Traders Association (JTA), an amalgamation of 14markets in the city centre, Lal Chowk, Beopar Mandal Maharaja Gung, Traders Association Koker bazar, Traders Association City Centre Lal chowk, Traders Association Barbarshah Nai sarak and others also attended the meeting. “The discussion was held in a cordial atmosphere, focused on the mandatory closure days for markets,” the statement said. It said that during the meeting, representatives requested for additional 10 days’ time to review the proposed order. “The Labour Commissioner agreed to a 10-day period during which the Labour Department will not implement the order,”the statement said.

Key attendees of the meeting included KTMF General Secretary (Org)/Publicity Chief Mohammad Altaf Dar (Rajbagh),The Joint Traders Association (JTA), an amalgamation of 14 markets in the city centre Head Farhan Kitab, Constitutional Head KTMF Farooq Batqoo, Additional General Secretary Showkat Ahmed Bhat, Sr. Vice President S.A. Rashid of the Jammu and Kashmir Business Confederation (JKBC), Traders Association Kokerbazar Sr. Vice President Hilal Ahmed Kuchay, Beopar Mandal representatives Ayjaz and Mushtaq Sahib, and representatives from the Traders Association City Centre LalChowk, including Sheeraz Sahib, Feroz, Khalid Baba, Rinku, and others. “The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue the dialogue to address the concerns of the business community,” the statement said.
