Srinagar, Dec 28(NVI): Kashmir is grappling with a significant power outage as 41 feeders at the 33 KV level and 739 feeders at the 11 KV level have gone offline.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today informed the public about the situation, assuring them that restoration efforts are in full swing, and over 90% of the affected feeders are expected to be functional by the evening.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister clarified that higher-voltage feeders at the 132 KV and 220 KV levels remain unaffected, which has prevented the situation from escalating further. “Restoration work is underway, and more than 90% of feeders are expected to be up and functional by evening today,” he wrote, emphasizing the government’s swift response to the outage.
Omar Abdullah also highlighted that he is in regular communication with the Power Development Department (PDD) to oversee the progress of restoration efforts. “I am closely monitoring the situation along with the PDD team to ensure the work is expedited,” he added, signaling a hands-on approach to addressing the crisis.
The outage has impacted several regions across Kashmir, disrupting normal life, particularly in residential areas and businesses dependent on uninterrupted power supply. The affected feeders at the 33 KV and 11 KV levels are crucial components of the power distribution network, and their failure has left many areas without electricity.
The PDD has mobilized teams to carry out repair and restoration work, with engineers and field staff working round the clock to fix the issues. Unfavorable weather conditions in certain parts of the valley are posing challenges, but authorities remain optimistic about meeting the evening deadline.
This power disruption comes at a critical time, with the winter season intensifying across the region, increasing the demand for electricity for heating and essential services. Residents have expressed concerns about the frequent outages and urged the government to invest in long-term solutions to improve the region’s power infrastructure.
While the CM’s assurance of timely restoration has brought some relief, the incident has sparked fresh debates about the capacity and resilience of Kashmir’s power grid. Experts suggest that modernizing the infrastructure and adopting proactive measures will be key to avoiding such large-scale disruptions in the future.
The restoration efforts will be closely watched as the administration strives to bring normalcy back to the affected areas and ensure uninterrupted power supply during the crucial winter months (News Vibes of India)
