Kupwara, Sept 22 (NVI): Kupwara Police have seized 25 cricket kits that were allegedly supposed to be distributed among youth by a former minister, who is also a contesting candidate from the area.
Kupwara Police wrote on ‘X’ that, received an official communication from the election magistrate, FST-Ist Trehgam, regarding the seizure of a vehicle suspected of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Two persons including the vehicle driver has been arrested and an FIR under number 218/2024 has also been registered.
A police officer told NVI that a load carrier bearng registration number JK04B 5496, was intercepted by the election magistrate’s team at Gushi , Kupwara and 25 cricket kits were seized.
“The vehicle driver by Sajad Ahmad Parray has been detained along with another person,” the police official said.
Initial investigations revealed that the material was intended for distribution among the youth in the locality as illegal gratifications to lure the voters, a clear violation of the MCC guidelines.
Sources said that the kits were to be distributed by the former National Conference minister among youth to lure voters. (News Vibes of India)
