Minor girl ‘missing’ from Jharkhand, found in Jammu

Jammu: A minor girl from Jharkhand, found abandoned at the railway station here four days back, was reunited with her parents today.

The girl, aged 15 years, was found alone on the Jammu Railway Station by the child help desk.

Accordingly a diary entry was registered with the Railway Police Force and the girl was produced before the child welfare committee, an official statement said.

With the efforts of the child welfare committee, Jammu and District Child Protection Officer Jharkhand, the family of the girl was traced in that far off state.

The parents reached Jammu today and the custody of the girl was handed over to her parents after proper verification and legal formalities, the statement said.

Giving details of the case, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Jammu, Shalini Sharma said the girl was found abandoned in Jammu on January 3, 2022.

She was placed before CWC Jammu for shelter and rehabilitation pending inquiry.

The girl shared that she had left the house after an argument with her parents.

After a counselling session, the girl shared the address and contact number of her family.

The District Child Protection Officer Jharkhand was contacted who reached out to the family.

The officer confirmed that the girl had been missing from her house since January 1, 2022 and a missing report is registered with Saria Thana, District Girdih, Jharkhand, the statement said.

Earlier today, the parents of the girl, along with the investigation officer of the case, reached Jammu to take the girl back.

The parents thanked the Child welfare Committee and district administration for their efforts.
