New Delhi: While modeling is a short lived career some of the leading male models like their female counterparts have gone
into films and television shows. Some such names include Milind Soman, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Arjun Rampal etc. The females who began their professional career as models and went on to be top actresses include big names such as Zeenat
Aman, Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai, Lara Dutta etc.

The glamour, hefty payments and prospect of entering into the films and television shows have made modeling a sought after profession among youngsters. As
the field requires fresh faces all the time since no advertiser wants an over-exposed model to endorse products, plenty of
opportunities for freshers exist in the field.

On the face of it, there appears to be much glamour, name and fame associated with this profession and it’s a fact too that handsome amount is paid to the successful models, making a career in the field requires lots of hard work.

The models undergo cut throat competition to make a living and have to lead an erratic lifestyle. Again one needs to have a
charming personality so as to push the product to the top in the highly competitive market.

The modeling profession can be broadly divided into three categories: Print/still modeling, Television modeling
and Ramp modeling. For each of these types, aspirants require specific attributes.

Not mandatory, a good height and thin physique is still very important. It is because camera automatically makes a model look shorter by a couple of inches and healthier by a few hundred grams. Some prior experience in theatre would help as one is
required to make facial expressions as per the requirement of advertisers.

A photographer should be approached. Have a good portfolio made. Meet model coordinators, advertising agencies, fashion designers, fashion journalists and editors with your portfolio who may like to use some of them or would want to shoot you as per their requirements.

Performing live makes it a challenging and glamorous career option. One therefore needs a strong personality to succeed in the field and this does not mean good looks only. The girls must be at least five feet eight inches tall and the men, six
feet.
