More than 32 lakh domicile certificates issued in J&K till Dec 31 last year: MHA

New Delhi (NVI): Over 32 lakh people in Jammu and Kashmir were issued domicile certificates by the end of last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs informed the Parliament today.

“As per information provided by Govt of J&K, a total of 35,44,938 applications for issue of domicile certificates received as on December 31, 2020 out of which 32,31,353 applicants have been issued domicile certificates,” Union Minister of State for Home, G Kishan Reddy said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

Reddy told the House that applications which lacked the prescribed documents were rejected.

“Rule 5 of the Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure) Rules, 2020 mandates certain documents to be annexed with the application,” the Minister said in a written reply.

“As per the rules, residents of J&K who live outside the erstwhile state can get domicile certificates by simply producing their Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC), ration card copy, voter card or any other valid document,” read the statement presented by the Home Ministry in the Parliament.

Those eligible to receive the certificates are children of officials of the Central government, all India services, banks and PSUs, statutory bodies and Central universities, who have served in J&K for 10 years.
