Poonch, July 22 (NVI): Anantnag-Rajouri Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad had a narrow escape after his official vehicle was hit by a landslide while he was inspecting rain and landslide-affected areas along the Jammu–Poonch National Highway on Wednesday, officials said.

Officials said that rocks and debris suddenly rolled down a hillside and struck the MP’s vehicle during the inspection. However, Mian Altaf and those accompanying him escaped unhurt.

Following the incident, the Jammu–Poonch National Highway was temporarily closed for vehicular movement as men and machinery were pressed into service to clear the debris and restore traffic.

Authorities have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel on the highway and follow traffic advisories until the road is declared safe for movement. (NVI)
