Srinagar, Oct 29 (NVI): Apart from extending his congratulations to Omar Abdullah on his appointment as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Member of Parliament from Srinagar, wrote to him on Tuesday to address several pressing issues, including the plight of prisoners held without trial.

In a formal letter, a copy of which lies with NVI, Mehdi outlined several recommendations to help shape a just and effective administration. He called for the release of prisoners to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law, emphasizing the importance of addressing this humanitarian concern.

He stressed the need to rationalize reservation policies, advocating for a balanced approach that supports deserving communities while maintaining merit-based opportunities. He argued that such measures could foster social equity and inclusivity.

Another pressing issue he raised was the swift filling of government vacancies, which he believes is essential for providing employment opportunities to thousands of deserving candidates and bolstering the local economy.

As winter approaches, Mehdi urged the Chief Minister to tackle the high electricity tariffs that burden consumers, suggesting that reducing these rates and ensuring a stable supply would greatly help families during harsh weather conditions.

He also called for a reassessment of the existing verification processes, which he described as overly harsh and often unfair, stressing the need for a more just approach for all applicants.

Mehdi expressed hope that Abdullah’s leadership would consider these suggestions, paving the way for a progressive and responsive government that addresses the needs and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.—(News Vibes of India)
