Municipal Council Rajouri Rolls Out Measures To Regulate City Traffic

Srinagar, Nov 29 (NVI): Faced with issues vis-a-vis with unprecedented traffic flow, Municipal Council Rajouri on Friday rolled out measures aimed at streamlining of traffic within and in peripheries of the City.

“Whereas the transport system of Rajouri Town consists of advanced transportation modes, including cars, buses, commercial vehicles, trucks, and e-vehicles, such as e-rickshaws. Further, road transport has been identified as a major contributor to accidents, fatalities, and injuries. The ever increasing urbanization of the city, along with the migration of people from villages to the town, has put enormous pressure on the city roads. Whereas, safer roads and free mobility cannot be achieved unless sufficient parking spaces are made available. The Municipal Council Rajouri has already been entrusted with this responsibility and has established three bus stands at different locations: Main Bazar (Old City), Salani, and Bella,” the Municipal Council Rajouri said.

“Additionally, efforts are underway to create more parking spaces/lots at various locations in the town, such as Main Bazar, Kheora, Bella, Jawahar Nagar, Panja, Circular Road, and near Abdullah Bridge.”

“Whereas, encroachments on roads, pathways, and pedestrian paths have become one of the reasons for congestion and road accidents. In order to provide safer roads and to streamline the traffic flow for hassle-free movement of the public, the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, during review meetings held on 2nd November 2024 at Dak Bungalow and on 4th November 2024 at the Conference Hall, DC Office, issued strict instructions for the enforcement of traffic management measures in Rajouri Town. These instructions aim to ensure the removal of encroachments from roads, pathways, and pedestrian paths and to hold enforcement agencies accountable,” Municipal Council said, adding, Whereas, three bus stands are operational within Rajouri Town, providing adequate space for parking passenger service vehicles along with basic facilities for passengers and transporters.”

“Therefore, as stated above, and in compliance with the directions issued by the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, it is hereby ordered that: All kinds of passenger service vehicles plying on the following routes shall operate from Bella Bus Stand; Shahdra Sharief, Thannamandi, Saj, Bowli, Fatehpur, and Darhali Morh; Darhal, Chowdhary Narh, Dandkote, Leeran, Dodaj, Topa, Sabzi, Sokar, Prori and Chandimarh, Bufliaz, Surankote, Shopian, Srinagar via DKG only,” reads the order.

All kinds of passenger service vehicles plying on the following routes shall operate from Salani New Bus Stand; Kalakote, Dhangri, Khandli, Dahlori; Budhal, Bakori, Kotranka, Pulma; Routes to Jammu (Tempo, Tavera only),” the order reads, adding, “Picking and dropping of passengers at Panja is strictly prohibited and No passenger vehicle shall be parked at any location except the designated bus stands.

“Heavy motor vehicles (e.g., tippers, dumpers, LP trucks, heavy trucks) are prohibited from entering Rajouri City between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (i.e., from Salani Bridge, Tariq Bridge, Darhali Bridge, Chaudhary Naar, and Workshop Bridge towards Old Bus Stand and Khandli Bridge),” reads the order further.
