‘Namaste Trump’ event: US Prez announces $3 bn defence deal with India

New Delhi (NVI): Calling Prime Minister Narendra a “tough negotiator”, US President Donald Trump today announced defence deals between the two countries worth 3 billion dollars.

While speaking at a mega event — “Namaste Trump”– at Motera stadium in Ahmedabad, President Trump said,” “America loves India, America respects India and America will always be faithful and loyal friends to the Indian people.”

Trump also praised India for its rise as a prosperous and independent nation. “India’s rise as a prosperous and independent nation is an example to every nation all over the world; it’s all the more inspiring as you have done it as a democratic, peaceful & tolerant Country,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the US President,  who is on his first official visit to India, arrived at Ahmedabad airport where he was welcomed by Prime Minister Modi. After a quick handshake and hug, Modi introduced the Trumps to the welcoming party at the airport.

The US President, who is also accompanied by his wife and first US lady Melania Trump.

A tri-services guard was also present at the airport to honour the US President. President Trump will soon take part in the ‘Namaste Trump’ event at Motera Stadium after holding a roadshow in the city.

Apart from the security and logistics arrangements, an elaborate menu studded with famous Gujarati dishes is also being prepared for the Trump family. The onus of preparing food for the high-level visit has been laid on a top chef from the city, Suresh Khanna.

Few hours before landing in India, Donald Trump also tweeted in Hindi.

After addressing ‘Namaste Trump’ event and visiting Sabarmati Ashram, President Trump and Melania visited Taj Mahal in Agra in the evening.
