New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated Lee Hsien Loong for his re-election as the Prime Minister of Singapore for the third term.
Lee Hsien Loong, the leader of People’s Action Party (PAP), has been the Prime Minister since August 2004. He is the eldest son of the founding father of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew, who ruled the country for a long period since 1965.
The ruling PAP won 83 out of 93 seats, with a reduced 61.2 percent votes against 70 percent last time, in the general elections which were seen as a sort of referendum for the government’s handling of COVID-19 situation.
The Opposition Workers’ Party showed its best result so far by bagging 10 seats.
Greeting his counterpart, PM Modi tweeted, “Congratulations to Prime Minister @leehsienloong for success in the General Elections! Best wishes to the people of Singapore for a peaceful and prosperous future.”
