Nation remembers Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi (NVI): Tributes pour in from across the nation on the first death anniversary of former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu were among the political leaders who remembered the veteran BJP leader.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “Remembering Sushma Ji on her first Punya Tithi. Her untimely and unfortunate demise left many saddened. She served India selflessly and was an articulate voice for India at the world stage.”

The Prime Minister also shared a video where he had spoken at a prayer meeting in her memory last year.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, paying wrote, “Sushma Ji was seen as an epitome of Indian culture. She was a blend of modern thinking and traditional values. She was always respectful towards seniors and elders.”

“She was one of the most affable Indian politicians and treated everybody with warmth and affection,” Naidu added.

On this day, last year, Sushma Swaraj passed away following a massive cardiac arrest at the age of 67. She served as the Minister of External Affairs of India in the Modi Government.

She was the second woman to hold the office, after Indira Gandhi and was also one
of India’s most-followed leaders on Twitter with over 13 million followers.

Remembering his predecessor, Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar shared a collage of pictures. “Today, more than ever, remember her fondly. Always an inspiration,” Jaishankar tweeted.
