Srinagar, Aug 19 (NVI) : National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah announced the party’s 2024 poll manifesto today, pledging 200 units of free electricity and a renewed push for restoring the political and legal status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at a press conference, Abdullah emphasized the NC’s commitment to advocating for J&K’s statehood and enhancing the public distribution system. He also expressed disappointment over Jamaat-e-Islami’s decision not to participate in the elections openly and urged voters to support the NC for the next five years. The elections will be held in three phases starting September 18, with results expected in October.
Omar Abdullah voiced concerns over the ongoing unemployment crisis in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing it to fraudulent recruitment processes that have plagued the region.
In a press conference, Abdullah criticized the current administration, highlighting that numerous youths were denied jobs due to corrupt practices in recruitment.
“We all know the unemployment condition in J&K,” Abdullah stated. “There was fraud in the recruitment process, and the youths did not get the jobs they deserved.” His remarks come amid widespread discontent among the youth, who have struggled with joblessness despite various government promises.
Omar Abdullah also outlined his party’s commitments to addressing the unemployment issue if they come to power. “We are making comprehensive promises to the youths and are going to address the unemployment issue,” he said.
His comments reflect the National Conference’s strategy to prioritize employment as a key electoral issue in the upcoming elections.
In addition to addressing unemployment, Abdullah also tackled the pressing issues of water and electricity supply in the region. He promised that under a National Conference government, electricity up to 200 units would be provided free of charge to households. “We will also address the issue of water and electricity and will give electricity free till 200 units,” he announced. This move is likely aimed at alleviating the financial burden on families struggling with rising costs of living.
In a subtle dig at political opponents, Abdullah expressed skepticism about their promises, stating, “Some will promise more, but that’s not beneficial because they are not going to be in power in the future.” His remarks suggest a lack of faith in the electoral promises made by rival parties, further positioning the National Conference as the credible alternative for voters in the region.
The National Conference leader’s statement has sparked discussions across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly among young voters who are eagerly watching how various political parties plan to address their concerns.
As the region gears up for the elections, Omar Abdullah’s comments may resonate with many who feel disillusioned by the current state of affairs. (News Vibes of India)
