New Delhi (NVI) Nepal has restricted the arrival of foreign travellers, including Indians, intending to travel to third countries via Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, from tomorrow midnight till further notice, as daily Covid cases witness an alarming surge in India.

In an advisory regarding Indian nationals travelling to third countries via Nepal, the Indian Embassy in Nepal has advised them to avoid travel to Nepal for the purposes of onward journeys to third countries because of restrictions after April 28.

“The arrival of foreigners intending to travel to third countries via Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and using TIA as transit airport will be restricted from 28 April 2021 mid night till the next notice,” the Department of Immigration of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Nepal said in a notification released yesterday.

However, “…the ongoing services provided to travelers arriving to Nepal as final destination and departing from Nepal will be continued as usual,” as per the official statement.

A report published by a Nepali newspaper recently said that Indians were using Nepal to circumvent travel bans via Kathmandu airport.

The April 21 report published by Nepali Times on its website had said that Indians with jobs or families abroad were using the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu to go to countries that have banned direct flights from India amid the Covid surge.
