New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while replying to the motion of thanks on the President’s address in Lok Sabha today, said that no mandi has shut after the laws relating to agriculture were passed by Parliament recently, and that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) has remained like before.
While defending the recently passed farm laws in the Parliament, PM Modi said that the procurement on MSP continues, adding that “those who are disrupting the House are doing so as per a well-planned strategy.”
As the PM was replying to the motion of thanks to the President’s address, Congress staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha raising slogans to repeal the farm laws.
Continuing his address on farm laws, PM said, “I am surprised for the first time a new argument has come that we did not ask, so why did you give.”
He said that no one had demanded a law for dowry or triple talaq also, but they were made under the government’s positive will and intentions, being necessary for a progressive society, while recalling the passing of Triple Talaq bill.
Triple Talaq, also known as Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019, was passed by the Indian Parliament as a law on July 30, 2019, to make instant Triple Talaq a criminal offence.
In his long speech, PM also noted that farming sector cannnot be made strong without investment and new technology, while defending the farm bills.
Pertinent to mention here that the recently passed farm bills are at the centre of farmers’ protests at Delhi borders that have now entered their third month now.
Apart from that, PM in his address said that the speech by by President Ram Nath Kovind showcased India’s ‘Sankalp Shakti.’ “His words have boosted the spirit of confidence among the people of India,” he said.
PM Modi also noted that during the discussion, a large number of women MPs took part and congratulated them for enriching the House proceedings with their thoughts.
He further said that Atmanirbhar Bharat is the key in post-Covid world order. He said that remaining isolated from global trends, at a time when the post-Covid world is changing, will be counter-productive.
“We will have to emerge as a strong player. That is why India is working towards building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. We need to be self-sufficient like we become in the pharma industry,” he said while highlighting India’s emerging potential as a key Covid-vaccine provider in the world.
