Srinagar: Pakistan failed yet again today in pushing terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir as the Indian Army, BSF and local police killed 2 infiltrators near the Line of Control (LoC) in Macchil sector of Kupwara district of Kashmir Valley.
This was the 4th infiltration attempt since June 16, showing Pakistan’s desperation to push terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir to disturb peace in the Union Territory.
From the slain terrorists, believed to be Pakistanis, the Indian forces today recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including 4 AK assault rifles, their 9 magazines and 175 bullets, 6 hand grenades, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), 5 UBGL grenades and tactical vests.
The joint operation was launched last night after specific and credible intelligence provided by BSF and ambushes were laid at multiple places along the likely routes of infiltration.
Suspicious movement was detected at the LoC at around 11 PM yesterday, said Srinagar-based Defence spokesman Col Emron Musavi.
“The movement of terrorists was continuously tracked through surveillance devices,” he said, adding that contact was established with the terrorists at around 4.55 AM today.
“Intense firefight ensued resulting in elimination of two foreign terrorists,” Col Musavi said.
He said the incident was “an indicator of repeated attempts by terrorist groups to push terrorists and war-like stores into Jammu and Kashmir to disturb the prevailing peace, development and growth in the Union Territory.”
Efforts were underway to identify the slain terrorists and their affiliation.
The successful operation not only foiled the infiltration attempt but also dealt a severe blow to the plans of terrorists to disrupt peace and stability in the valley, said Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir Zone) Vijay Kumar.
The operation was a result of exemplary synergy among different security forces engaged in countering the infiltration attempts, said BSF Inspector General (Kashmir Frontier) Ashok Yadav.
While hailing the execution of the operation, he said, “The tireless efforts of the BSF Intelligence setup in developing credible inputs is worth applause.”
The Army, in its tweet, said, “In a Joint Operation launched by #IndianArmy, @BSF_India & @JmuKmrPolice, an infiltration bid was foiled today morning by alert troops along LOC in Macchal Sector, Kupwara. 02 x Terrorists eliminated & 04 x AK Rifles, 06 x Hand Grenades & other war-like stores have been recovered. Ops in progress.”
Today’s operation in Kashmir Valley came just 3 days after the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police foiled a similar infiltration attempt in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district in Jammu Province.
