Srinagar: Security forces achieved yet another success as they killed 3 terrorists of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit in an encounter in Kashmir today, raising to 11 the number of terrorists eliminated in the first week of this year.
The terrorists were killed in an overnight gunfight in Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, police said.
The encounter in Zowla locality started last evening when Police and Army launched a cordon and search operation in the area following an input regarding the presence of terrorists.
The gunfight continued through the night and the 3 JeM terrorists were killed, the police said.
“One of the slain terrorist is Waseem, a resident of Srinagar. The other two are most probably foreign terrorists and we are ascertaining it,” Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) Vijay Kumar said.
Three AK 56 rifles, eight magazines and incriminating documents were recovered from the encounter site, he said.
He said the Waseem was involved in a series of civilian killings and after his death, there is only one listed terrorist of Srinagar left alive.
Today’s encounter was the 5th since the year 2022 began and so far 11 terrorists have been killed in these, including top commanders of Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish.
At least 15 terrorists of JeM, including top commanders, have been killed over last 9 days in various encounters.
