Pakistan: 21 security men killed in TTP attacks

Peshawar: Pakistan lost at least 21 security personnel and many were injured as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) carried out multiple attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province since last night, including an ambush on an army convoy in Lakki Marwat today.

The ambush on the army convoy on Mianwali Road in Lakki Marwat in Bannu district this afternoon was the worst among the attacks as 12 soldiers were left dead and many were injured, according to the TTP.

The security forces pressed into service 2 helicopters and 5 ambulances to evacuate the casualties from this attack, TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said in a statement.

He said gauging from the situation witnessed on the Mianwali Road, the number of casualties is likely to be higher or go up.

In the direct fight with Pakistani soldiers, TTP lost two fighters — Aftab alias Maling and Ehsanullah alias Ahmed, the spokesman said.

Earlier, a group of TTP fighters stormed a police check post near Lachi Toll Plaza on Kohat-Indus Highway in Kohat district last night and killed 5 policemen, Khurasani said.

A police vehicle that came for help was also ambushed and there is possible of more casualties, he said.

The TTP also seized weapons from the slain police personnel.

TTP also attacked a police post last night in Mandan Torkala area of ​​Bannu district, as a result of which 4 personnel, including an ASI, were killed and three were injured, the spokesman said.

In the fierce gunfight, TTP lost 2 fighters — Abdul Wahab alias Farooq and Haroon alias Jafar, he said.
