Peshawar: At least 23 Pakistani soldiers were killed and over 35 injured today as a group of 6 suicide attackers of Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) targeted a heavily-guarded security installation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
The security camp in Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan district was attacked at around 3 AM (Pakistan time), officials said.
The attackers first detonated a vehicle laden with explosives at the gate, because of which the building collapsed.
The building collapse caused “multiple casualties”, said Pakistani military spokesperson Inter-Services Press Relations (ISPR).
The attackers then stormed the complex and laid siege there for several hours, before all of them were killed.
The attack left 23 Pakistani soldiers dead, the ISPR said in a statement.
Over 35 were injured, some of them critically, and hence the death toll is likely to rise.
The TJP, while owning responsibility for the attack, released a video of the operation which was apparently shot with a camera with night vision device on the headgear of one of the attackers.
In the video, the attackers can been seen firing at will at the soldiers who tried to hide and take cover to escape the onslaught.
