Jammu: Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have foiled yet another bid by desperate Pakistan to push terrorists into this side of Jammu and Kashmir, killing 2 infiltrators near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district.
The terrorists were intercepted last night when they were trying to sneak in through Krishna Ghati Sector, the Army said.
This was the 3rd known infiltration attempt in just over a month by terrorists from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
“In a joint operation by alert troops of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police, a major infiltration bid was eliminated on the night of 16-17 July 23 in Krishna Ghati Sector in District Poonch (J&K),” Army spokesman Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said in a statement.
Movement of terrorists was observed near the Poonch River moving from across the Line of Control towards own side, he said.
Alert troops of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police established an anti-infiltration posture in multiple tiers to prevent any terrorist from escaping, he said.
In the early hours today, contact was established with the infiltrators and intense gun fight ensued, in which 2 terrorists were hit.
One of the terrorists fell on the spot while the other terrorist was observed falling in the Poonch River, Lt Col Bartwal said.
Body of one terrorist has been recovered from the site, he said.
War-like stores were recovered from the spot, which included one AK-74 rifle with magazine, 11 rounds and other stores for sustenance.
“By their quick action, alert troops of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police have eliminated a major infiltration bid, which was aimed to disturb the peace in Poonch District (of Jammu Province),” the Army spokesman said.
“The Security Forces continue to remain alert on the Line of Control and is fully prepared to thwart such attempts in the future too,” he asserted.
Such movements of terrorists from PoJK side towards this side of J&K take place at the behest of and with the active support and collaboration of the Pakistan Army.
A week back, on July 11, the Indian Army prevented a group of heavily-armed terrorists from sneaking into J&K from PoJK in Naushera sector in Jammu Province, killing one of the infiltrators and forcing others to retreat, 2 of them with bullet wounds.
Prior to that, on June 16, 5 heavily-armed Pakistani terrorists were killed while trying to infiltrate via Jumangarh in Kupwara district of Kashmir Province.
