Muzaffarabad (Pakistan-occupied J&K), Nov 18 (NVI) In yet another move to crush the people of the parts of Jammu and Kashmir under its illegal occupation, Pakistan has started a spree of arrests of local political and social leaders after imposing a new Ordinance in the so-called ‘Azad Kashmir’.
The wanton arrests have ignited anger among the locals who vowed today to fight tooth and nail against such acts of “terrorism” by the State of Pakistan.
Trouble has been brewing over the last few days after Pakistan issued a new law titled ‘Peaceful Assembly and Public Ordinance’, which snatches from locals all the fundamental rights, including the right to protest.
Imposition of this Ordinance triggered protests in Rawalakot and some other key towns of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with protesters burning copies of the “black law”.
The protesters, while declaring that this law will not be acceptable to the people of PoJK, chanted slogans like ‘yeh jo dehshatgardi hai, iske peeche vardi hai (It is the uniform which is behind this terrorism).
After the protests, the Pakistani forces swooped down upon those leading the agitation and took them into custody.
Shaukat Nawaz Mir, a key leader of the ‘Azad Jammu Kashmir Joint Action Committee’, condemned the spree of arrests following protests against the ‘black law’.
He said such a law is not acceptable as it seeks to silence the people of PoJK and snatch their rights.
The Ordinance is aimed at stopping people of POJK from being together and collective but its objective will fail, he asserted.
Demanding immediate release of those arrested, Mir said the Joint Action Committee will hold its emergency meeting in Rawalakot tomorrow where some big and major decisions are likely to be taken.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has rushed in tens of thousands of military personnel to various parts of PoJK, adding to the anger among the locals.
