Srinagar : Ahead of the G20 Summit in India next month, Pakistan is displaying desperation to send terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir to carry out attacks and disturb peace in the Union Territory.
An evidence in this direction is the two reported attempts in the last few days to push terrorists across the Line of Control (LoC) into Jammu and Kashmir, which were foiled by the Indian Army.
The Indian Army yesterday killed 2 terrorists who were trying to infiltrate into Poonch from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
Both the terrorists, including a top dreaded commander of Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen, were gunned down after they crossed the LoC, the Army said.
The Indian troops noticed 2 individuals moving across the LoC in General area Degwar Terva at around 2 am yesterday, the Army said.
To neutralize the infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP).
“Two infiltrating terrorists were engaged by the joint teams of IA and JKP,” Army spokesman said.
“One terrorist fell down immediately. Second terrorist tried to run back to LoC, (was) engaged and hit and seen falling down near LoC,” the spokesman added.
The terrorist, whose body was recovered, was identified as Munesar Hussain of Poonch.
He was a dreaded terrorist and so-called ‘Divisional Commander’ of Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.
Hussain is the senior most commander of Hizbul Mujahideen and the most dreaded terrorist killed in Rajouri-Poonch region in the last 10 years, Jammu-based Defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said in a statement.
According to Police records, he went to PoJK in 1993 and returned in 1996. He went again to PoJK in 1998 and remained there till now.
Hussain masterminded a number of attacks on security forces, Col Bartwal said.
Recently, he attended a high-level meeting of Hizbul Mujahideen in Islamabad and its agenda was the revival of the outfit in Rajouri-Poonch region, the PRO said.
It is with this evil design that Hussain was trying to sneak into Poonch along with his bodyguard.
“It is evident that Pakistan is trying to send old terror veterans to JK to motivate and recruit youth, thus making desperate attempts to revive terrorism,” Col Bartwal said.
This unsuccessful infiltration attempt came a day after a similar bid by a group of terrorists in the Tangdhar Sector of Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
That attempt was foiled by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) by killing one terrorist and forcing others to retreat.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army and JKP also killed one terrorist on Saturday last in Budhal forest area of Rajouri, bordering PoJK.
The killed terrorist was part of a group of 2-3 terrorists who were spotted in the forest area.
Special Forces were brought in by Indian Air Force helicopter and repeated attempts by terrorists to break cordon was thwarted by controlled fire throughout the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the Army said yesterday.
Night-enabled Quadcopters, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Sniffer Dogs were also used.
India is hosting the Summit meeting of G20 countries, the richest and powerful countries of the world, early next month.
The event, which is going to be a historic development, will be attended by world leaders including US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak besides others.
