Peshawar: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) today said it has launched a “large-scale operation” in Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, bordering Afghanistan, and has taken over 2 military posts, while killing 6 personnel of Pakistan Army.

It said more details would be shared as the operation progresses.

Some other sources said hundreds of TTP fighters swooped upon various villages of Chitral at around 4 AM (Pakistan time) and captured them.

“A large-scale operation has been launched in Chitral by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan,” its spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said in a statement.

“As a result of the large-scale operation of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in Bomburit area of Chitral District this morning, two military posts have been conquered and weapons and equipment have been taken into possession,” he said.

Six army personnel have also been killed, Khurasani said.

The TTP sought to assure the common people of Chitral, saying they won’t be harmed.

“Our war is against usurping and oppressive security agencies,” said the TTP spokesman, referring to the Pakistani military.

Giving an update in the afternoon, Khurasani said in the continuing operation, the TTP Mujahideen attacked the aid sent to the army and killed 5 personnel by using sniper and long-range weapons.

TTP declared an all-out war against the Pakistani military in November last year, with a vow to defeat it and establish Sharia laws in the country.

Meanwhile, Khurasani said TTP last night attacked Dogra Hospital army base in Bara district of Khyber and killed 2 enemy army personnel and seriously injured three personnel.
