Pakistan: TTP offensive on rise; killed 132 military men, injured 157 in August

Peshawar: The outgoing month of August saw a big increase in the attacks by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Pakistan Army and other agencies, resulting in a huge rise in the number of casualties among the armed forces and police forces.

The TTP carried out 147 attacks on armed forces and their assets during the month, resulting in the killing of 132 military personnel and injuries to 157, according to the details shared by the Islamist outfit about its operations in August.

The number of attacks and casualties marks a big jump compared to the figures of July when 94 soldiers were killed and 103 injured in 98 attacks.

These figures also show an increasing trend as in the month of June, TTP carried out 64 attacks in which 73 soldiers were killed and 83 injured.

Releasing the latest report, TTP said the number of total attacks during August was 147.

Giving a break-up of operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, it said 47 attacks were carried out in Dera Ismail Khan district, 39 in Bannu district, 34 in Peshawar district, 8 each in Kohat and Malakand districts, 2 in Mardan district and one in Hazara district

In Balochistan, the TTP carried out 8 attacks, including 4 in its capital Quetta, according to the statement issued by TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani.

Among the types of operations, 41 were Sniper/Laser Attacks, 27 were Guerilla Attacks, 26 were ‘Assaults’, 20 Grenade/IED Attacks, 19 Ambushes, 8 Targeted Attacks, 4 Counter Attacks and 2 Missile Attacks.

The institutions targeted included 127 Military assets, 80 Police/CTD installations, 79
Frontier Corps and 3 Intelligence, he said.

In these attacks, he TTP destroyed 9 Spy Cameras, 8 Military Vehicles, 3 Drone Cameras,
3 Military Posts, 3 Police Mobiles and 1 Police Post, the statement said.

The TTP seized 1 LMG, 2 G3 guns and one pistol besides a large quantity of ammunition from the government forces, it said.
