Srinagar, Mar 17 (NVI) Indian security forces today killed a Pakistani terrorist who has infiltrated into Kashmir from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) sometime back to disturb peace and cause bloodshed in the Valley.

The terrorist, identified as Saifullah, was killed in a gunbattle in a forest in Krumhoora-Zachaldar in Kupwara district of Kashmir.

Saifullah was tracked down on the basis of specific intelligence and killed in a joint operation of Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

“On being challenged, terrorist opened indiscriminate fire. Own troops effectively retaliated, resulting in neutralisation of one terrorist alongwith recovery of one AK Rifle,” Army’s Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Handwara, Mushtaq Ahmad said Saifullah was active in the area for some time.

This is the first terrorist killing in Kashmir this year.

The security forces also averted a possible disaster by detecting and defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district today.

The IED was found this morning on Shopian-Anantnag road in Qaimoh area by the security forces during a routine patrolling.

The area was immediately cordoned off and the traffic movement on the busy highway was halted, officials said.

A bomb disposal squad was called and the IED was exploded in a controlled environment without causing any damage, officials said. (NVI)
