New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today arrived in Dhaka, Bangladesh on a two-day visit, and was welcomed by his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Furthermore, a salute of 19 guns and Guard of honour were accorded to PM Modi on his arrival, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
During his historic trip, PM Modi will take part in a wide range of programmes aimed at furthering cooperation between the two countries.
“This is the historic visit to celebrate Mujib Borsho- the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Bangladesh; and 50 years of Bangladesh’s war of liberation,” the MEA statement added.
After landing in Dhaka, PM Modi took to Twitter and wrote, “Landed in Dhaka. I thank PM Sheikh Hasina for the special welcome at the airport. This visit will contribute to even stronger bilateral relations between our nations.”

After his arrival to the country, PM Modi headed to the National Martyrs’ Memorial at Savar and planted a sapling at the site.
This is his first foreign visit since the COVID-19 outbreak.
