New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that India will never forget the attack on the Parliament that took place on this day 19 years ago while paying tributes to the martyrs.

“We will never forget the cowardly attack on our Parliament on this day in 2001. We recall the valour and sacrifice of those who lost their lives protecting our Parliament. India will always be thankful to them,” the PM wrote on Twitter.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted while saluting the people who lost their lives in the attack.

On December 13, 2001, five terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), stormed the Parliament complex in New Delhi and opened fire indiscriminately.

Nine persons, most of them from security forces, lost their lives while preventing the entry of terrorists inside the Parliament House Building. The incident took place around 40 minutes after Parliament was adjourned. About 100 members were present in the building.

All five terrorists were killed by security forces. The incident led to high level of tension between India and Pakistan.
