New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tributes to India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, on his 56th death anniversary.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s longest-serving Prime Minister, fought for India’s freedom against the British rule.
Nehru was born in Allahabad on November 14, 1889. He served as the country’s PM from 1947 until his death on May 27, 1964.
He was also imprisoned several times during the freedom struggle.
