New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reiterated his suggestion to increase the use of handloom and handicrafts in personal lives, on the occasion of National Handloom Day, which is being celebrated on August 7.
He also salutes all those associated with vibrant handloom and handicrafts sector.
This year, on National Handloom Day, the government pitched for ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) and urged people to support handmade items.
Taking to twitter, PM Modi said, “On National Handloom Day, we salute all those associated with our vibrant handloom and handicrafts sector. They have made commendable efforts to preserve the indigenous crafts of our nation.”
“Let us all be Vocal4Handmade and strengthen efforts towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” he added.

PM Mod also shared a video message on a part of his ‘Man Ki Baat’ radio address in which he urged people to not only use Indian handicrafts product but also spread a word around to boost the handloom sector.
Textile Minister Smriti Irani also took to Twitter to make the same appeal and wrote, “Handloom can enrich our daily lives and surroundings in many ways; from clothing to furnishing to Masks in Covid times to wall hanging. Bring home handmade in India.”

August 7 was chosen as the National Handloom Day to honour the ‘Swadeshi’ Movement which was launched on the same date in 1905.
However, the objective of the day is to generate awareness about handloom industry amongst public at large and its contribution to the socio-economic development.
