Srinagar, Sep 7 (NVI):In a move to ensure inclusive participation in the upcoming elections, drivers, conductors, and cleaners deployed for election duties in Shopian district will have the opportunity to cast their votes via postal ballot.
As per the statement issued by the Department of Information and Public a Relations (DIPR) the facilitation Centre has been set up at Government Degree College (GDC) Shopian, with voting scheduled for September 15, 2024.
During a review of postal ballot arrangements, General Observer for Shopian AC, Roohi Khan, emphasized the need for full facilitation in line with Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines.
This includes all personnel involved in election-related vehicle deployment, such as buses, cars, and government vehicles from both civil and police sectors.
The District Election Office, Shopian, has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure these essential workers, who are voters in the district, can cast their votes without disruption to their duties on poll day.
The Facilitation Centre at GDC Shopian will cater to voters from both constituencies of the district, ensuring their participation in the democratic process.
The Nodal Officer for Transport (ARTO Shopian) has been directed to inform these voters, including drivers, conductors, and cleaners, about the postal ballot process.
These personnel, deployed with polling parties, nodal officers, field teams, and security forces, will submit their consent forms (Forms 12 and 12A) to the respective Returning Officers, allowing arrangements to be made for their voting at the Facilitation Centre. General Observer Roohi Khan also instructed officials to submit the complete database of drivers and relevant requisitions to the Returning Officers and the Nodal Officer for Postal Ballots within two days.
On September 15, 2024, all these voters will cast their postal ballots at the Facilitation Centre under equal, secure, and transparent conditions. Additionally, the Nodal Officer for the Transport Department has been encouraged to explore the possibility of displaying SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) posters on private vehicles, along with the already designated government and hired vehicles, to promote voter awareness.
