Amritsar, Nov 5 (NVI): Amritsar Rural Police have busted multiple illegal arms, explosives and drug trafficking networks, solved three firing incidents and arrested 16 accused, recovering five illegal pistols, two sophisticated Uzi guns, two hand grenades, 34 kg of heroin and 26 live cartridges, officials said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers who facilitated the supply of illegal weapons for further distribution among criminal elements, police said.

The recoveries were made during separate operations conducted by the police as part of their crackdown on organised crime, illegal arms trafficking and drug smuggling.

Separate FIRs have been registered at Gharinda, Beas, Mehta, Lopoke and Chatiwind police stations in Amritsar district.

Further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages of the networks and identify other individuals involved in the illegal activities, police said.—(NVI)
