Rain, thunderstorms likely in many parts of India

New Delhi: Parts of North, South and Northeast India are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall and are expected to witness thunderstorms along with lightning, the IMD said today.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), “Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Gujarat and North Konkan.”

“Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, north Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam & Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam are likely to receive heavy rainfall,” the IMD said.

The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied with lightning at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Rajasthan, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

Squally weather wind speed (40-50 kmph to gusting 60) very likely over Northeast Arabian along & off Maharashtra-Gujarat coasts.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, the IMD added.
