Rain, thunderstorms likely over East and Peninsular India

New Delhi: Parts of East and Peninsular India are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall and are expected to witness thunderstorms along with lightning, the IMD said today.

According to India Meteorological Department, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over East Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.”

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Chhattisgarh and Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa,” it said.

IMD has also predicted thunderstorms along with lightning at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.

Strong winds (speed 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph) very likely over Northeast & adjoining Northwest and adjoining the central Bay of Bengal; (speed 40-
50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph), the IMD said.

Over Southwest, Westcentral, Northeast, and East-central Arabian Sea & along & off Gujarat-Maharashtra-Karnataka coasts. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, it added.
