Rain, thunderstorms likely over east, peninsular and western Himalayan region

New Delhi: Western Himalayan region is likely to receive scattered rainfall and expected to witness thunderstorms along with lightning due to active western disturbances near the region, the IMD said today.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), “Thunderstorm with lightning very likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh.”

“Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal are also likely to witness thunderstorm,” it said.

“Heavy Rainfall very likely at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Tamilnadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe,” the IMD forecasted in its daily weather bulletin.

Duststorm/Thunderstorm with lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) very likely at isolated places over West Rajasthan, it said.

As per IMD, “Under the influence of Western Disturbance as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies; isolated to scattered rainfall very likely over Western Himalayan region during next 48 hours.”

Under the influence of strengthening of moist southwesterly winds; fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram and West Bengal & Sikkim during next 5 days, it said yesterday.
